The last couple of weeks have seen a variety of things underway on the OTCM workbench.
I have been working on subtly improving some Parkside plate wagons, my main issue being that the brake tensioning bar between the axles is too flexible as a plastic moulding. Following guidance from others, I purchased some 0.8mm L section brass from Eileen’s Emporium and have been fitting this to the longer wheelbase stock in my collection. This, coupled with 3 links and some 51L metal buffer heads creates a visible improvement on the finished product I think:
I was also lucky enough to pick up a Bachmann BR 20T brake van from our local swap meet, along with a Dapol 7 plank open, for the princely sum of £5.00, as they had been ‘interfered with’ by having 3 links added! This has now been fitted with Instanter links and a coat of weathering applied, leaving it looking as such:
Finally, we received the great news that Hornby will be producing both LMS and BR pattern coke wagons in 2016, which fills a gap in the market very well indeed, given kits have been unavailable for a number of years. Hopefully this will spawn the fully enclosed version at some point in the future…. Now we just need a kit or RTR 24T hopper and 2 of the biggest gaps in the market will have been filled!
I think that’s about all there is to ramble on about, until next time.
