Tonight numerous ex Great Central signal boxes between Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes have rung out for the last time, as Network Rail plough on with their vanity re signalling project.
Having taken a trip to the area this week to grab modelling detail photos of the boxes, I thought I would share some photos of the boxes just closed tonight – some more detailed shots will appear after Christmas.
These boxes have served their purpose for well over 100 years and to see them go is a great shame, but such is progress…. It was sad to stand there hearing the bells chime, knowing by the end of this week they would fall silent. Let us not forget the dozens of staff working over Christmas to get this work done, they are a credit to the rail industry.
On that note, thanks for reading the blog this year following us restarting posts after some time away, and too all readers, a Merry Christmas.
Now, I’m off to scratch build a signal box!
